'Winter Light'

What can I say. It is all about the light in winter and the patterns that are created in the snow.

'Spring Melt' Lynn Canyon, B.C.

This spot is at the bottom of the Lynn Canyon, British Columbia, upstream of the suspension bridge. I was there in 2009, the year Vancouver had lots of snow. It was surreal to walk there with all of the lush green and more than a foot of snow. There was a glow about the place.

Ravine Light

There is something about being in the forest just as the sun is setting. Light is thrown around in unexpected spots, and it glows. This ravine is beside our house. I am very fortunate to be able to walk 5 minutes from my door and get all the inspiration I need to paint.

'Rock Face'

Every time I do the dishes this is my view. I see faces in the rocks all around, I don't look for them, they find me. Rocks have many different colours and textures. When I look at a rock formation I see movement within the rock. These different elements provide the inspiration for me when I start to paint.

When I came upon this place on Wren Lake I knew that I wanted to paint it. The contrast between the light on the rocks and the darkness of the forest pulled me towards it. I particularly liked to paint the space between the trees.

The idea for this painting started last fall when the colours were bright. I was doing a lot of dyeing with oak leaves. I walked around my property and started snapping photos. This was a combination of about 5 photos that I used for reference. Once I started to paint it morphed into an experiment with negative shapes. It was very enjoable to paint.
